Our story
starts in September 2004 when we acquired the Farm 'H6' in a relatively run-down state, with 3 neglected horses near-starving and a dream of someday running a 'therapeutic ranch'. No food for animals, too many noxious weeds, alien trees and little care for the land had left the 35ha smallholding looking rather sad and unkempt. Soon after, a near-fatal accident with a nasty fence left Dancer and then Liesl injured, vulnerable and open to the path of discovery and the magic of healing with horses that today constitutes Mizpah Farm Retreat.Meet the Mizpah Team
Twilight is
a handsome Thoroughbred gelding who is a gentle leader and earns his
position among the other horses by his intelligent, wise ways. Stately
and calm, this passive alpha leads by example.
Scully is a retiree who was a sport horse for many years and is the eldest in the herd. He knows all about carrying burdens and shares his love with anyone who asks.
Dancer, is a
large gentle’man’, who offers lessons on “bowing out” of conflict and
still being able to maintain a sense of dignity and worth. This gentle
giant of a horse is responsive and easy-going.

Silver, is also a Thoroughbred with special
skills in boundary work— although affectionate, he is simply no
push-over.
Isra, is a Fresian x Boerperd filly, with a loving
nature, naturally curious and she has a great deal of presence.
More about us
The beginnings of the RetreatOn a wing and a prayer, the divine assignment starts.
Of Fires and Freedom
It all nearly comes to an end in June 2007 when most of the farm,
the main house, self-catering cottage and income-generating forest
burns down.
Why horses?
Horses are powerful in their capacity to journey alongside us as we discover our personal power and capacity for self-healing.
